Susan Finsen ceramics and Jill Finsen paintings. Sisters Jill and Susan Finsen are fine artists with long and deep ties to Deer Isle via their dedicated commitment to the Deer Isle Artists Association. Oil and Clay—two elemental gifts from the earth—unite in this exploration of VESSELS as both image and object. Jill’s painted vases and boats—lobster boats, sailboats, and dinghies—float across canvases in quirky abstracted forms evoking movement, memory, and containment. Susan’s dimensional counterparts—handmade ceramic vases, cups, and bowls—stand grounded, physical, and ready to hold. This interplay between painted image and tangible vessel reveals how form carries meaning across dimensions: vessels hold water, objects, and stories whether drifting on the sea, resting on a table, or captured forever in paint adorning your walls.

Art By Katy Gallery is a rustic gallery space that has pop-up pARTy events centered on fine art, fine people, and fine munchies. We believe that summer is for having fun & taking away memories of unusual experiences. Artist-owner Katy Allgeyer showcases her own mixed media paintings and curates special exhibitions by guest artists. There is often a mix of vintage collectibles, jewelry, and even occasional home decor on offer.
What does “Open by Chance” mean? The secret is we don’t get enough traffic to warrant a full time employee to sit the space daily. Art By Katy Gallery is what we like to call a destination gallery. Plus, I’m a free spirit so the hours are not set in granite. We encourage you to call ahead or arrange a private appointment if you need to be sure to catch us in (after all, you’re leisure time is precious…we get it).
