Presenting CONTEMPORARY ARTIFACTS an Exhibition by Deer Isle Artist Richard Buxton

Art By Katy Gallery will be showcasing the new sculptural work created by local artist Richard Buxton at a special pARTy!  event on Saturday August 21 from 4-7PM. Richard Buxton is most known on the island as the resident bench jeweler at Ronald Hayes Pearson Designs in Deer Isle where he hand-forged and cast Pearson’s and his own designs for the high-end jewelry line. For this Solo Artist Exhibition “Contemporary Artifacts”, Buxton has tapped into his passion for archealogy and history. He’s used sophisticated yet ancient assembly techniques to create a finely crafted collection of sculptures reminiscent of ancestral tools daring to be  elevated to sacred objects. Each piece is meant to be held in the hand and/or displayed on the unique pedestal integral to the individual sculpture. With an eye for detail and a love of organic natural shapes, Richard Buxton combines several types of wood, stone, steel, semi-precious metals and other found and collected materials in unexpected ways evoking primal memory and primitive luxury for contemporary collectors. This is the first formal presentation of this body of work.
